بارے دنیا میں رہو غم زدہ یا شاد رہو
(Bare duniya mein raho gham zada ya shaad raho)
Whether you live in this world in sorrow or in joy,
ایسا کچھ کر کے چلو یاں کہ بہت یاد رہو
(Aisa kuch kar ke chalo yahan ke bohat yaad raho)
Do something here that will be remembered fondly.
عشق پیچے کی طرح حسن گرفتاری ہے
(Ishq pichhe ki tarah husn giraftari hai)
Love is like the beauty of captivity,
لطف کیا سرو کی مانند گر آزاد رہو
(Lutf kya sarv ki manind gar azad raho)
What joy there is in being free, like a cypress tree!
ہم کو دیوانگی شہروں ہی میں خوش آتی ہے
(Hum ko deewangi shehron hi mein khush aati hai)
We find joy in madness only in the cities,
دشت میں قیس رہو کوہ میں فرہاد رہو
(Dasht mein Qais raho, koh mein Farhad raho)
In the wilderness, be like Qais; in the mountains, be like Farhad.
وہ گراں خواب جو ہے ناز کا اپنے سو ہے
(Woh giraan khwab jo hai naaz ka apne so hai)
That heavy dream is a beauty in its own right,
داد بیداد رہو شب کو کہ فریاد رہو
(Daad bidad raho raat ko ke faryaad raho)
Let there be celebration at night, so let there be cries of despair.
میرؔ ہم مل کے بہت خوش ہوئے تم سے پیارے
(Mir, hum mil ke bohat khush hue tum se pyare)
O Mir, we are so happy to be with you, dear friend.
اس خرابے میں مری جان تم آباد رہو
(Is kharabe mein meri jaan tum abaad raho)
In this ruin, may you, my beloved, always thrive.
