An Ode to Saadat Hasan Manto
زمانے کے جس دور سے ہم اس وقت گزر رہے ہیں اگر آپ اس سے ناواقف ہیں تو میرے افسانے پڑھیئے۔ اگر آپ ان افسانوں کو برداشت نہیں کر سکتے تو اس کا مطلب ہے کہ یہ زمانہ ناقابل برداشت ہے۔۔۔ مجھ میں جو برائیاں ہیں، وہ اس عہد کی برائیاں ہیں۔۔۔ میری تحریر میں کوئی نقص نہیں۔ جس نقص کو میرے نام سے منسوب کیا جاتا ہے، در اصل موجودہ نظام کا نقص ہے۔
(Zamane ke jis daur se hum is waqt guzar rahe hain agar aap is se nawaqif hain to mere afsane parhiye. Agar aap in afsano ko bardasht nahi kar sakte to iska matlab hai ke yeh zamana na-qabil-e-bardasht hai... Mujh mein jo buraiyan hain, woh is ehed ki buraiyan hain... Meri tehreer mein koi nuqs nahi. Jis nuqs ko mere naam se mansoob kiya jata hai, dar asal mojooda nizaam ka nuqs hai.)
لوگ مجھے سیاہ قلم کہتے ہیں، میں تختہ سیاہ پر کالی چاک سے نہیں لکھتا سفید چاک استعمال کرتا ہوں کہ تختہ سیاہ کی سیاہی اور بھی زیادہ نمایاں ہو جائے۔ یہ میرا خاص انداز، میرا خاص طرز ہے۔
(Log mujhe siyah qalam kehte hain, main takhta siyah par kaali chaak se nahi likhta, safed chaak istemal karta hoon ke takhta siyah ki siyahi aur bhi zyada numayan ho jaye. Yeh mera khaas andaaz, mera khaas tarz hai.)
حسین چیز ایک دائمی مسرت ہے۔ آرٹ جہاں بھی ملے ہمیں اس کی قدر کرنی چاہیئے۔
(Haseen cheez ek daimi musarrat hai. Art jahan bhi mile humein is ki qadr karni chahiye.)
ہر حسین چیز انسان کے دل میں اپنی وقعت پیدا کر دیتی ہے
(Har haseen cheez insaan ke dil mein apni waqat paida kar deti hai.)
Translation:
If you are unfamiliar with the era we are currently living through, read my stories. If you cannot bear them, it means this era itself is unbearable. The flaws within me are the flaws of this age. My writing bears no fault; the faults attributed to me are, in fact, the shortcomings of the present system.
People call me a dark writer. I do not write on a blackboard with black chalk; I use white chalk so the darkness of the board becomes even more evident. This is my unique style, my distinct approach.
A beautiful thing is a joy forever. Wherever art is found, we must cherish it.
Every beautiful thing creates its own worth in the human heart.
